Your Compass For Living: An ACT Masterclass on Values and Behaviour Change

A meaningful life is built not by reaching destinations, but by moving in the directions that matter most to us. This session introduces the concept of values as different from goals, why we sometimes lose touch with what we care about, and the practical tools you can use to find your way back.

Have you ever reached a goal you'd worked hard for, only to feel strangely flat once it was done? That may be a sign you've been chasing destinations when what you really longed for was a direction.

The things we tick off a list are goals. But underneath them sit our values: the kind of person we want to be, and how we want to show up in the world each day. Goals can be completed; values can only be lived. And when we lose touch with them life can start to feel like motion without meaning, however much we're achieving.

The good news is that values aren't something you have to earn or arrive at. They're available to you right now, in the very next small choice you make. Once you know what matters, even the tiniest step can point you home.

In this session Bec M, Clinical Nurse at Clean Slate Australia trained in both mental health and alcohol & other drugs, and Dr Aaron Brown, GP and Managing Director of Clean Slate UK, explore a simple but powerful idea from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: that a meaningful life is built not by reaching the finish line, but by moving in the directions that matter most.

Watch the recording to:

✅ Distinguish between goals and values, and explain why values offer a more sustainable foundation for lasting change.

✅ Identify the three components of a genuine value and recognise where values sit within the ACT model.

✅ Apply practical values-clarification tools to uncover what matters most to you.
