Sensory Modulation

With guest speaker, Hannah Miller, a certified occupational therapist with a passion for trauma-informed care, this webinar offered a new perspective on understanding sensory modulation and our sensory systems' role in emotional regulation.


Sensory modulation is the way our brain processes and responds to sensory input from our environment - things we see, hear, touch, taste, smell, and even how we sense movement and body position. It helps us stay balanced and regulated in daily life. Some people are naturally more sensitive to sensory input, while others might not notice things as much.


Learning how to manage sensory input in a healthy way - through things like movement, deep breathing, music, or calming activities - can help reduce cravings and provide new coping strategies. By understanding your sensory needs, you can find healthier ways to manage stress, anxiety, or discomfort.

Speakers:

Hannah Miller

Hannah has a Bachelor in Occupational Therapy and a Masters of Mental Health. She has worked across forensic, inpatient and community mental health services in Tasmania, and has been a witness intermediary with the Department of Justice aiding vulnerable witnesses who give evidence in court and to police. Hannah has a passion for mental health and specifically understanding an individual’s sensory preferences and how this impacts their behaviour and emotions.


Fiona Faulkner

Fiona brings a wealth of experience to Clean Slate, with a background in nursing, social work, and mental health. Her journey led her to specialise in alcohol and other drug (AOD) counselling, where she found her true passion.

"I love working with people to see that change is possible. One of the most rewarding aspects of this work is witnessing clients rediscover themselves and achieve their goals."
